Lovely, tiny intricate painting - a true miniature in every way.
A tiny four-sided porcelain box decorated by hand with flowers and insects. The lid is a thin slab of porcelain and is painted with an immortal riding a chi lin. The piece is painted with brilliant red, orange, green, yellow, purple and gold over glaze enamels and outlined in black enamel. The edge of the lid is also painted in gold. The lid has a flanged edge that fits the base.
This item comes with two tiny salt spoons. The mother of pearl spoon is a work of art in mother of pearl. The thinly carved spoon has a delicate incising of a floral motif on the upper handle. It has that nice iridescent white color and is translucent when held to the light. We will also include a second, more modern blue and clear glass spoon.
The inside of the mouth and the lid flange are unglazed. There are no porcelain marks or labels.
Please note that we have 5 additional salt containers available that nearly match this one, although some have the mother of pearl spoons and some have the glass spoon. If you are interested in purchasing more than one salt, please let us know. We would offer a discount for purchasing more than one.
Box is 1” (2.5 cm) wide x 1” (2.5 cm) deep x ¾” (1.9 cm) tall. Lid is 1 1/16” (2.7 cm) wide x Lid is 1 1/16” (2.7 cm) wide x 3/16” (.5 cm) thick (including the flange).
Mother of pearl spoon measures 1 5/16” (3.3 cm) long x ½” (1.3 cm) wide. The glass spoon measures 2 ¼” (5.7 cm) long x ½” (1.3 cm) wide.
Weighs 1.0 oz (30 g)
There are no chips or cracks and the enamel looks fresh, with the exception of some wear to the gilding on the edge of the lid. Please note that one corner of the lid is a little more rounded than the other corners. This is not a chip though since the edge is gilded. It is a manufacturing irregularity inherent from being hand made.
Exciting miniature works of art in porcelain and carving.
