Colorful and intricate hand painted and hand-potted antique porcelain box with a brass frame work and hinge.
A porcelain top, base and side panels with pretty peony scrolling that have been joined by a brass framework and hinge. The background color is a pleasing pale yellow and the floral designs are painted in rose, white, blue, and green. Black has been used to outline and accent. The top panel is edged by a turquoise enamel band. The base is flat with a recessed middle rectangular panel. The base has a matte finish and the center of the base is glazed in white. The inner edge of the lid is unglazed.
The mark CHINA is in iron red in the center of the base. There is also a red character on the inner edge of the lid. This probably was put on for manufacture purposes. They had to match lid to base.
4 ¾” (12.1 cm) long x 3 3/8” (8.6 cm) wide x 2 ¼” (5.7 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 0.3 oz (460 g)
There is dark oxidization to the brass. The hinge is broken and the lid is hanging on by a small patch of metal. The back right corner of the lid has a rough patch in the enameling but this may also be a kiln flaw. The enamels look fresh and bright.
A colorful, expertly painted, intricate Chinese porcelain box that shows much hand work and will stand out in your décor.
