A hand thrown vase that was hand painted with very fine paintings of garden scenes. The hand work on this vase is incredible. Painting the backgrounds alone would make a person go blind.

The sides of the cylindrical vase rise almost vertically from the base. The vase tapers at the shoulder to a small everted mouth. The porcelain has been painted with over glaze enamels in iron red, green, yellow, light purple and blue, with black used to outline and define. Starting from the mouth, there is a key fret band, a band of swirls and plantain leaves, a band of prunus and ice crackle, and a band of swirls and mums. There are two almost identical panels on opposite sides of the body. These panels depict a pavilion with a beauty and her noble. The garden setting is well executed with a gnarled pine, Lake Tai stones and a cloud. The painting is very fine and extensive. Below the panels is a band of mums and swirl lines. Above the base is a band of stylized lappets.

The vase was hand thrown. You can see the minute potter’s rings on the unglazed base.

There are no porcelain marks or labels.

MEASUREMENTS 13 1/4" (33.6 cm) tall x 5 1/2" (14.0 cm) diameter. Weighs 3 lb 8.4 oz (1.60 kg)

CONDITION The only damage is that the vase was drilled for a lamp. There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The enamels are bright and fresh.

This vase is like a scroll painting. The artist was very talented and painted beautiful tranquil garden scenes. The surrounding backgrounds are minute and expertly executed. A very large beautiful vase.
