A deep violet color is produced when light hits this vase. The interesting shape is matched by the detailed fine white overlay painting of cupids.

A thin amethyst glass has been blown into a mold to produce an interestingly shaped vase. The vase flares at the mouth above a cup shape below this the vase indents to a narrow neck which continues down to a tapering body. The body curves inward to a narrow pedestal with flared round foot. You can see the ground pontil mark on the base. The body has been painted with a design is of two cupids using white overlay glass enamel. One is wearing a turban and is in mid-flight. The other cupid floats while playing a lute. There is a garland of flowers beneath them. The painting is delicate, and fine with good line quality and depth.

There are no maker marks or labels.

MEASUREMENTS

10” (24.5 cm) tall x 3 ¾” (9.5 cm) diameter. Weighs 12.7 oz (360 g)

CONDITION

There are no cracks, chips, breaks or significant wear scratches on the glass. The glass is old and hand-blown with small imperfections like lines, pimples and bubbles.

A beautiful art glass vase that has a romantic feel. The painted design is expert and exact. In a window, the vase will become a colorful beacon of purple.
