The foliated finely carved arched crest above an openwork back with arches and quatrefoil motifs flanked by turned stiles, over a padded seat, raised on turned legs ending in rounded feet. The chair has an old needlepoint cushion with a floral motif.
The chair is quite heavy (and solid), and the places where it’s worn show a dark reddish brown wood that is consistent with mahogany wood.
Approximately 38 ½” tall x 17 ½” wide x 17 ½” deep. Weighs 16 lbs 11 oz
The springs are fairly tight, although they are pushing against the fabric on the bottom a bit. It’s still quite comfortable to sit in. The wood has its original dark finish. The legs show some scratches and bangs. The front side of the back has a lovely patina with few scratches. The back side, shows some wear to the finish towards the top, where the chair was repeatedly picked up and moved, as well as raised areas where it rubbed against walls.
The chair would have to be shipped by freight, for which we’d need to obtain a quote. For reference though, packaging and shipping on a similar sized chair to Florida (across the country for us) cost us approximately $140.
The hand-carved detail makes it both sculptural and architectural in character.
