A hand stitched and embroidered child’s hat with upturned corners and a design of a cat face. The hat is very detailed and intricate.
A silk hat with back flap and upturned corners has been embroidered with forbidden and satin stitch. The front has eyes, nose and mouth with whiskers. The sides have embroidered designs of a pagoda, phoenix, and butterflies. The top has embroidered flowers and butterflies. Silk tassels with silk knots adorn the corners of the upturned edges. There is a dome on the top with a design in gold threads and satin stitch butterflies. The edges have stitched brocade borders. There is a top finial with a thread loop.
**Please note that the stand is not included. It is for display only**
12 ½” long in back x 10 ½” diameter. Weighs 4.6 oz (130 g)
The cloth is slightly stained and faded. There is wear at the cat’s mouth and nose. One butterfly at the back is missing his feelers. There are a few loose threads throughout. The hat is still in excellent condition considering the age and use.
A great child’s hat with much handwork and attention to detail that has survived to today. It’s so fun and unusual. I love the upturned edges to protect the child.
