This pretty platter has a lovely cobalt blue stenciled central design of peonies, birds and plum branches in bloom. The central design is artistically bordered by colorful panels reminiscent of fabric designs, hand-painted in green and red enamel over-glaze. The panels of flowers and leaves are hand-painted in red enamel over-glaze.
The elongated octagonal shape platter measures 11" long x 9" wide x 1 3/8" tall, and was produced during the Meiji period circa 1900.
There are no factory or maker marks underneath but the underside does have perfunctory designs and circular lines around the base foot ring in under glaze blue.
Condition: There are no chips or cracks and the dish rings true. There is wear to the gilding and some wear to the over glazed enamels, particularly along the edge. Please see the photograph and e-mail if you have any questions.
The dish is very colorful and definitely a show-stopper.
