A deeply cast bronze Japanese vase in the shape of a gourd with a ferocious lion artistically placed diagonally on the vase front.
The heavy cast bronze shows a nice golden color from being over polished at one point. The design and casting is very good and deep. There are lathe marks on the flat base, and the lion and land below show tool marks in the metal. The vase rests evenly on a flat surface. It has a nice heft and solid look.
There are no marks or labels.
7” (17.8 cm) tall x 3 ½” (8.9 cm) diameter. Weighs 1 lb 2.0 oz (515 g)
There are age spots in the metal as well as a few spots of verdigris. It has been over polished and is a shiny gold color. There are small nicks here and there. The interior shows oxidation from age and use.
A very well cast and artistically decorative bronze vase. I love the portrayal of the lion in an active pose.
