A hand worked metal alloy box in the shape of a melon with applied rich blue and purple enamels.
The heavy metal box shows copper in worn areas and has been clad with a silver-colored metal. The box has molded and applique designs leaves, tendrils, stem, bats, Buddhist symbols and key fret borders. These are coated with two shades of blue and purple enamels. The inner surfaces of the lid and box are enameled in the turquoise enamel. The box comes together to form a melon.

There are no dents, cracks, or breaks to the metal body. There is a spider crack on the enamel inside the lid near where the stem was attached. There are either small enamel losses on the stems on the top of the lid, as well as very minor loss to the edges of some of the leaves. There are small enamel losses on the lip inside the base, as well as some wear to the enamels inside both the base and lid. The enamels are very bright and colorful.
