A large colorful eight-sided red lacquer box with auspicious symbols. There is the toad, ruyi scepter, pomegranate, the musical stone, peony and shou character.
The box with matching lid is from either wood or fiber box, and coated in a gesso and then covered in blue, red, rose, black, and a dull gold lacquer. The lid is decorated with a large shou symbol surrounded by a ring of a cloud pattern. The lid edge is decorated with auspicious symbols such as pomegranate, toad, ruyi scepter, and ribbons. The box and lid edges have shou symbols, peony and musical stone symbols. The interior and base are black lacquer.
The box has a flange that fits the lid snugly. The box has a nice weight to it. It rests flat on a surface.

The box is old and shows wear commensurate with age and usage. There are small losses in the edge, interior and exterior of the rim of the lid, as well as the interior of the lid. the box base edge shows a small bit of fabric from the manufacture. The box flange and edges has small lacquer losses. There is also wear to the lacquer on the lid surface, as well as wear on the base from sliding. The interior lid has a couple of hairline cracks in the lacquer running from the edge down the sides. They don’t go through to the outside. It still has a good entire look.
