An intricately tooled design on a heavy round copper box with matching cover that has been decorated with fan shaped enameled landscape panels. I love the foo lion finial and floral enamel panels on the lid. There are very subtle Daoist symbols in the intricate tooled body.
The box has been tooled with an intricate fine pattern of cloud or smoke decorations interspersed with Daoist symbols. Intricate paintings of landscape scenes have been enameled on fan-shaped panels on opposite sides of the face of the box. The lid matches the base with the tooled design and fan shaped enamel panels but with flowers. The lid is topped off with a foo lion finial. The interior of both the lid and base are enameled in white.
The box feels quite substantial in your hand. It was made from copper that was turned on a lathe. You can see the circular rings on the base. The box is supported by three bun feet on the base. The word CHINA is stamped in the center of the base.
4” (10.2 cm) diameter x 4 3/8” (11.1 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 0.7 oz (470 g)
The foo lion lid finial is loose and rotates. There are chips to the enamel inside the lid and a crack to the enamel edge of the inside of the box. There are no other chips, dents, cracks or breaks. The flange is a little bent. The lid fits tightly.
A delicate well painted metal box to decorate with and hide treasures. The tooled design is very minute and detailed.
