A heavy well used antique bronze censer with the mark of reverence for the Xuande emperor.
A symbolic lotus shaped circular bronze censer with loop handles that has been heavily used over the ages. The interior is black from burning incense or coals. The censor was over cleaned many years ago, and so has a gold like bronze. The metal is starting to patina again as there is darker spotting. The feel of the metal is smooth, and worn. The censer rests on three round peg feet and is very heavy.
There is a molded reign mark of the Xuande emperor on the center of the base. The mark is deep and well molded.
PROVENANCE: This censer was acquired in China and brought to the US over 70 years ago.
MEASUREMENTS 5 ½” (14.0 cm) diameter x 3 ½” (8.9 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 4.6 oz (585 g) CONDITION
There is a crack in one of the handles but it doesn’t seem to be effecting the censer’s integrity. There are no other breaks, chips, dents or cracks. The censer has been over cleaned, but has begun to develop a patina again.
An interestingly shaped antique censer that has been used and was not just for display.
