I bought this doll coat at a local doll show and the seller told me it was a Lenci coat. A Ruby Lane buyer suggested it may be from Hungary. Still another buyer wrote that she was sure it was Lenci. Since is not tagged, I have no proof of its origin.
It is a lovely coat, made out of heavy felt and decorated with cheerful red trim and colorful embroidery down the front and on the collar. Two felt red ties are attached to the front of the coat for closure.
The coat is in good condition but is not clean and has small dark spots here and there. I was told that felt can be dry cleaned. Even so, I feel it would look nice as is on an appropriate doll.
I noticed a couple of small holes on the back left of the bottom back edge and one surface hole on the back collar that could be moth bites. I used a magnifying glass to view the entire coat and did not see any other evidence of moths. The pink embroidery on the top flower on the left of the coat opening is partially missing. Please review photographs.
The coat’s measurements are 8-1/2” long (neck to bottom edge) by 7” wide (14” around), the shoulder width is 4-1/2” and the sleeves are approximately 5” long with 2” wide sleeve cuff openings. The sleeves have been lightly basted to the coat.
Bring festivity to your collection with this colorful coat!
