A classy top hat for a groom....or a pallbearer.
This early 1900s headwear was made by Maurice L. Rothschild, a German-born hatter that immigrated to America in the early 1880s. In 1906, he opened a store in Chicago, Illinois, and it is no secret that Al Capone was a frequent patron during the early 1900s-1920s.
With a 21.5" head circumference, this hat measures about 6" high. The hole for your head measures 7 3/4" long and 6.5" wide. It has a 1 7/8" brim and the EXTERIOR of this hat is in AMAZING condition. It has little to no wear along the edges and appears to be made of black beaver fur.
The silk-lined interior of this hat shows much wear. The delicate fabric has age-related shatter, holes, and handwritten former owner's initials 'EG.' The brown leather interior band could benefit from a cleaning. There are stains and light odor from storage (which we will work on while it is in our care).
The oval, black box has also seen wear over the last century, but has done a pretty good job protecting this hat. There is fabric string across the top, old tape on the sides, and it is missing its top lid.
A nice addition to any collection and a charming hat for display or costume wear.
(Please note, the hat stand is not included in this sale. It was used for display only.)
