Interesting hand made and painted terracotta tankard, 5.75" high and about 3.5" at the top. You can tell it was made by hand: the potter's coils are small, the walls are not overly thick, the top edges are not quite flat or even, and the applied handle is slightly askew. The painted glaze pattern is cathedral window-like and uses colors reminiscent of Portuguese or Italian, Deruta, or majolica pieces. Very rustic or provencal in it's design. The bottom edges are rough and there is a maker's signature(illegible) on the bottom. There is one obvious chip on the inside top rim and one other small one that is hard to see. The glaze has nice crackling conducive to it's age.
