For your consideration is a pictorial hand hooked rug with a deer in the woods among pine trees and other foliage. This rug is well detailed in the variations of colors-there are many blues used in the sky and greens for the woodland plants. There is a spray of wildflowers growing in one corner and you can see details of the pine cones and bark. The color combinations are fabulous and would look good on a wall or on the floor. I am not sure of the age but it came from the New England area. Possibly a Pearl McGowan design. The rug measures 3' by 4'. I believe it is wool and not cotton. Sometime in it's past, either some of the brownish/purple from the pine cone has run. I have not attempted to clean it and I am hoping a good conservator can remove the pink that you can see in the sky area(although from a distance it looks like a sunset effect!). There is also a water stain on the back binding on the bottom. Otherwise the rug is in very good condition. It is very pliable and lies well on the floor and there are no odors.
It is an interesting rug and evokes images of those Scottish paintings you see labeled as 'The Monarch of the Glen'!
