This most unusual miniature doll or coin purse from the turn of the 20th century caught my eye because I had not seen another one like it. The 2-1/4" wide x 1-3/4" high (from top of clasp to hinge at bottom) wee handbag has the remnants of a hand painted decoration on the mother-of-pearl shell on one side, but surprisingly, the other side is covered with red snakeskin, closing with a white metal kiss clasp at top. Three compartments for organizing dolly's comb, coins, and hanky (not included) is accordion folded in worn red cloth and leatherette, and it is hinged at the bottom with a tiny piano hinge. The frame is white metal, but has a tarnished brass colored 4" chain (hanging 2" from top). With a new red chapeau and this chic purse, dolly will be right in style when she promenades in the Easter Parade! Thank you for looking.
