This beautiful old lace cap for a young child was hand made in an ecru cotton lace, probably before the turn of the 20th century. An 3-1/2" wide by 18" length of a heavy panel surrounds a 7" high by 6" wide arched center back that narrows to 5" in width at the bottom. The panel forms rounded lappets on either side falling 2-1/2" below the center back. The entire cap is trimmed with a 1" wide crocheted lace edge. This was probably an heirloom handed down through generations, as there is a significant amateurish mend in center back (shown in photo), and a few other tiny unobtrusive mends. There is a small light tan stain on right side about where the ear would be. I have the cap displayed on a baby mannequin head, but I think it was probably meant for a tot of about three years. This mannequin, which is not for sale, has a head circumference of 18" at forehead. Though it is not perfect, it is a lovely piece, suitable for framing as well as for wearing or display on a mannequin's head. It comes to you presented in a white gift box. Thank you for stopping by.
