This is a fabulous antique etui or travelling container.
It is made of shagreen and has inset Bilston enamel panels with bucolic scenes.
The panels are surrounded by what are probably silver frames.
The etui is opened by a push button and there are lovely original items inside.
The items are a fork, a punch, a pencil, a knife, a sharp knife, a holder, a writing tablet, tweezers, scissors, a folding ruler, a compass, and a tiny spoon.
The small pieces that fit into the etui are just lovely.
A very interesting 18th century piece.
Condition: There is some fading and a hairline on the enamel. The silver surround on the panels has some trim missing on one side. On the whole in very nice condition for the age, especially the contents.
Size: 3 5/8 inches high.
