The Victorians were sure imaginative when it came to trifles for sewing.
This is a pincushion made of a burled wood.
It is shaped like a keg or cask, and has bone round handles, a decorative top and top side, and a turned base which unscrews.
There is an old velvet pincushion on the top with a bone finial and it even has a metal tap with a little handle that turns.
All this for a pincushion.
Condition: Some minor splitting in the wood, and a bit of chipping around the bottom.
This may have fit into something else at some time, but I am not sure what. It stands on its own.
Size: 3 inches high by about 2 inches wide.
