This is a lovely mother of pearl Palais Royale crochet hook circa 1830.
The Palais Royale shops sold specialty items fit for the king and the wealthy aristocrats in France, and mother of pearl was one of the materials particularly treasured for fine sewing items.
This hook is beautifully turned, and is fitted with gilded joins, and a lovely steel screw which attaches the hooks to the holder.
There are three hooks of different sizes, and the piece is still useable.
It is lovely, if you like antique items, to see the craftsmanship that went into utilitarian things unlike today where almost everything is made to throw away.
Condition: Very good. Bit of age wear on the metal.
Size: Implement 3 7/8 inches long. With hook in 4 1/2 inches long.
