This exceptional bolo tie is marked Handmade Sterling Jewelry J. Nez for the master Navajo silversmith Julian Nez, who made it. Mr. Nez passed away in 2005, and this beautiful and striking piece was probably made during the 1980's. It is a large bolo, and features an oval center that is set with two bold cabochons of blue turquoise. It is also decorated with silver balls, wire, and large, leaf-shaped pieces, and its edges have a deeply-incised handmade pattern. It is strung on a large black leather cord with a flat section that would go on the back of the wearer's neck for comfort, and it has handmade sterling silver tips. This tie is in very good to excellent condition, with no damage or problems with any of its parts.
The centerpiece of this very high-quality bolo measures 3 1/4 inches tall by 2 1/4 inches at its widest point, and its new leather cord is 39 inches long, not including the tips, which are each 2 1/2 inches long This well-made and unique tie is a classic of its type which can be worn for many years to come, and it would be a prized addition to the collection of many a lover of fine Native American bolo ties.
