Powder or puff box with faux guilloche lid, made by Apollo Studios, New York (1909-1922).
The box is composed of three parts: base, lid and glass insert. The faux guilloche pattern of the lid, in a coppery or apricot shade, is covered over with transparent celluloid. Hand painted flowers decorate the center of the lid. Both lid and base are made of gilt metal. The maker's name, "Apollo," is stamped into the underside of the frame.
The lid measures 5-1/8" in diameter; the base is 4-5/8" in diameter; and the piece is approximately 2-3/8" tall.
Condition: good for its age, with no breaks, noticeable dents or repairs that we have been able to find. Wear is normal for a piece of this age and type. There is some accumulated dust in the ornate edge of the lid and an area or two where water has left marks under the celluloid.
