Figural humidor or tobacco jar in the form of the head of a smiling abbot or monk. The jar is bisque china rather than the more common majolica.
The piece measures about 4-1/2 inches high x 3-3/4 wide x 4-3/8 deep. It weighs approximately nine and a half ounces.
The piece is not marked other than some numbers scribbled in graphite pencil on the underside. It most likely dates to around 1890-1910.
Condition: very good for its age, with no cracks, chips or repairs that we have been able to find. It would make a wonderfully whimsical addition to any collection.
