"Ranson" (or Schleiger #1) porcelain oyster plate.
Each plate measures slightly more than 9 inches in diameter and weighs about 14 oz.
The mark on the back is the under-glaze green "H & Co / L / FRANCE" which identifies the maker as Haviland and Co. of Limoges, France, and the time of manufacture between 1888-1896.
There is no decorator's mark (usually in over-glaze red) on these pieces because they are all white, with no gilding or floral decoration, allowing one to admire the beauty and details that characterize the Ranson design. The lack of added decoration also allows plates such as these to be used with china in virtually any other pattern.
The plate is in very good, used, condition. In pieces such as these, some surface wear or scratching is to be expected. There are no chips, cracks, repairs or stains.
