Pair of early 20th-century Bohemian mantel lusters made in Czechoslovakia, ca 1920-1930.
The lusters are made of hand crafted high-quality pink opaline glass and decorated with hand-applied enamel that has been gilded with gold leaf. The photos do not capture the subtleties of the color. Each luster has 10 cut clear glass drops.
The pieces bear no marks, but the style and quality of the decoration provide good evidence of their origin. The woman from whom we acquired the pieces owned them for about 30 years, and she was told they were approximately 60 years old when she purchased them.
The lusters are approximately 12-1/4 inches tall by 5-3/4 inches across the top and 5-1/2 inches in diameter at the foot. The pair weighs 6.25 pounds.
Condition: the lamps themselves are in very good to excellent condition, with no chips, breaks or repairs. The decoration is in very good condition with very little wear if any. The crystal pendants (or lusters) all are present and are in good condition with the exception of some of the points being chipped (most of these are quite small; the points were originally very sharp).
