Lalique glass figurine or paperweight in the form of a rooster, Le Coq Nain, made in France.
The rooster is posed with its head down, and it tail feathers pointed upwards. The features are modeled in great detail, with satin finish and shiny glass used to highlight the texture of the feathers.
The glass is heavy and exceptionally clear; qualities for which Lalique pieces are well known.
The piece is marked “Lalique ® France” on the underside of the base. The mark including the ® mark indicates that the piece was made no earlier than 1978. From our knowledge of the history of this specific piece, we estimate that it likely dates to the 1980s.
Measurements: about 8 inches tall x 5¼ inches wide x 2⅝ inches diameter across the base. The piece weighs a little under 2½ pounds before packaging.
Condition: Very good to excellent for a previously owned piece this age. Careful inspection has revealed no breaks or chips, although there is a tiny spot of roughness at the very outer edge at the top of the tail feathers. This can only be felt, and, as far as we can tell, isn’t visible.
A piece that makes a striking piece for display.
