A beautiful pair of late Victorian natural coral dangle earrings with torpedo-shaped drops. Each drop is suspended from a short flexible chain topped with a coral bead of approximately 5mm (3/16") diameter. The connecting chain and the ring at the top of the beads are original and test as 14 carat gold. The shepherd hook earwires are newer and test as 9 carat gold.
As one would expect, these are very elegant and show lovely movement when worn. The corals are smooth, highly polished and very well matched for colour and size; any white spots in the photos are just reflections. From the top of the ear wire they measure approximately 47mm (just shy of 1 7/8") long and between 7-8mm (about 5/16") across at their widest. From the top of the coral bead to the bottom of the drop they measure about 35mm (1 3/8") in length.
They are in excellent used condition with a small dent to one of the gold beads on the ear wires - only really noticed under a loupe.
