Lovely example of a Victorian lovers' knot brooch circa 1880 set with three natural garnets in a beautiful purple red shade. The knot is embellished with engraving and applied foliate decoration. The metal could be heavily gold-plated or pinchbeck - it has a rich gold colour apart from one spot where it is has worn. There is also a small old file mark on the back where the metal was tested at some time in the past. The hinge, pin and clasp look to have been replaced but are in good working order.
A really pretty antique brooch measuring 42mm x 26mm (1 5/8" x 1 1/16") approx. The centre garnet measures about 10mm (7/16") down.
