France, circa 1840 – 1850. The brooch is superbly modeled as a silver and gold bird embellished with old rose cut diamonds standing on a gold branch with four guilloche enamel leaves and a pearl. The branch is textured to imitate natural wood. Brooches with gem-set birds on gold branches with enameled leaves and pearl accents were fashionable during the reign of the French king Louis-Philippe. Marked on pin guard with eagle’s head French assay mark for 750 gold standard (18K) and maker’s mark. Length is 45 mm (1 3/4 in.) Height is 30 mm (1 1/8 in.)
