Alligator handbags were very popular during the late 1950s and into the 60s. Many were more crudely made in Cuba, but those made in the U.S., like this one made in Florida, had a more refined look and higher quality. Those that we come across are generally Cuban, so this was a real treat to find one so well manufactured. It still holds its quality because of it.
The inside leather interior needs to be cleaned, but even that is not bad. There are two inner areas, one of which holds a zipper area for phone or pens. The only visible wear to this 10"x8"x3" bag is shown in our closeup where a small area of the skin on the strap is peeling. This can be glued down of coarse. The handle is adjustable with snaps, and the alligators eyes are the typical glass. The skin is not stuffed, but is flattened and sewn in place. Alligator handbags are getting harder to find and are usually in pretty poor condition, so this is a great find.
