Early plastic dice expansion bracelet. We've never seen an expansion bracelet as cool as this one, with varying sizes and colors of dice, as well as the Mahjong charms. Peppered throughout are also hand-made art glass from Europe.
Expansion bracelets were popular between the 1940s and 1950s. They were usually made with crystal or glass beads and carry book values from $100 to $225 like the book example we show here. The bracelets were pretty much standard, came in two widths, and were sometimes stamped Japan or with a company name. Depending on the size of the beads used, the attachment hoops were generally never all used for the simple fact that a bracelet could only hold so much. This one has a good share of empty hoops, yet the bracelet is substantially full.
So for the big question; is it Bakelite? We tested a couple different colors and one appeared to be (a butterscotch), but the others did not. Since the majority rules, we are selling this as none Bakelite. This bracelet looks neat with the domino earrings we also have up for sale.
