1940 Coro rooster hen chatelaine pin rare book piece. This Coro chicken pin set is not even recorded in the Coro catalog, but it is marked, and is shown in the American Costume Jewelry volume by Brunialu (which features unique piece and has no price guide). After the war began designers started brightening up costume jewelry. By the time the depression was on, small pieces with lots of color were the rage. It was Gene Verrecchio that had a hand in bringing these colorful pieces to the Coro line. The red, blue and pink enameling on this set is in wonderful condition. The portion of their bodies that are paved in rhinestones are bright and sparkling. There are some stones missing but they are so small, and the metal reflects enough light that they are not really noticeable. The rooster, which has even more detailing with cut-outs in his tail, is just shy of 1.25 inch, and the hen is 1.25 inch. The chatelaine chain is 2.75 inches long. Great collectors pin.
