Foiled glass Gablonz bead necklace turquoise silver rondelle bead necklace. This is 24 inches of the most gorgeous hand-made glass beads you'll find. Made in the 1930s, the Bohemian glass makers lined different colored beads with silver foil to achieve several shades which gave the beads depth. Here the larger round 10mm and smaller 3mm beads are a pale blue and look turquoise in appearance. The three sided 8mm beads are a copper colored bead that is then foiled.
I can't say for a certainty, but I believe this necklace may have been restrung many years ago. The rhodium plated rhinestone clasp from the same Art Deco period is not generally seen on such glass necklaces. If that is the case, the rondelle rhinestone spacer beads were no doubt added at that time. Because of being individually made by hand, expect to see variations in the way the beads hang due to the center holes not being perfectly centered; part of its charm.
