Locket jet fob mourning hair work watch chain necklace with pearl lily-of-the-valley.
Made of two watch fob chains, one of jet and the other hair work. The hair work is pitch black and as soft as cotton. One of the fobs is a square facet piece of jet and the other is a round French jet bead style with two center grooves. I believe the locket is glass, or maybe onyx and has beautiful yellow gold work of lily-of-the-valley. Each flower has a tiny seed pearl, all original to the locket. The locket is missing it's back, but the front still has the glass back which looks like it's hinged, although I have not tried to open it. It holds a photo of a young man that is printed, and in part reads FOR VALOUR. Part of the metal tests as 10k, but its obvious some is gold filled. The jet is strung on chain. Necklace measures 17.5 inches, locket is 1.5 inch. All the parts that make up this necklace would be more expensive to purchase separately, so this is a bargain for the person that likes the unusual.
I am so taken with the quality and uniqueness of jewelry from the Victorian era that I am always picking up interesting pieces of it in our travels. I assembled this mourning necklace from like pieces that just seemed to naturally fit together. Please note we attempt to describe these old pieces as best we can, but materials may be incorrectly identified. This is not done intentionally, as we spend a great deal of time in our research.
