Authentic Art Deco Ladies Driving Hat
Incredibly find; a late 20s driving hat is something you just don't see, and a must for a collector. Rather than a veil as shown by the book example, ours hosts a wide silk ribbon I can just imagine blowing in the wind while in use. The black fabric feels like its either a heavy textured silk, or a rayon. The hat is pleated in the front and held in place with a brim that has gathered silk trim accents with a fancy gold stitch down the center. The long side ribbons are sewn to loops on both sides.
The back is encased elastic which still seems in good condition. It measures 22 inches around without extending the elastic. Whoever owned this really took good care to store it properly. The only issue I see is a bend in the cardboard brim. This driving hat even looks better than the one shown here in print. Ships in Medium Flat Rate box for added protection.
