Antique gold watch pin with black taille d' e'pergne. These pins, made as collar pins or to hang a small watch on the bust, were popular during the Victoria/Albert period from 1840-1860. They were made in various ways, gold, gold tops, gold-filled, solid gold - but always had the same wonderful detailing and lovely black enameling that drew attention to them in spite of their usual small size. This pin measures 1.25 inch, has the usual tube hinge, and an added loop to hang a watch. It tests positive for at least 10k gold, but I rather think just the top is, and the sides are gold-filled, just not positive. The taille d' e'pergne enameling is in suburb condition even with the small ding in the top.
