This lovely enameled sterling and natural ruby peacock Mogul necklace and earring set is from India. Each section has two peacocks. There are three clusters of three ruby beads dangling from each section, and the larger beads at the closure are amethyst. The enamel background is not really yellow, but has a gold vermeil look to it from the enameling. The peacocks are royal blue with turquoise, and the flowers are black with deep red. The enameling technique is similar to cloisonne and is called meenakari, from Jaipur, India. This is not the typical cheap stuff mass produced today. I bought it from a women who purchase it in her travels in the 40s. My search hasn't found another like it to compare it to. The only part of it that is newer is the closure which she had done here in the States more recently.
The post earrings measure 1-3/16 inch long, and the necklace is approximately 21.5 inches. It has a tongue and groove closure. These elaborate pieces are worn by the bride during the wedding ceremony in India, and now days the antique and vintage sets are mostly rented.
