Exquisite Marcel Boucher/Phrygian Cap was used 1937--1949. It's Design is unique with pave swarovski crystals, imitation opal cabochons and a mechanism attached for the reef. The pin back was loose, I had my jeweler laser it back together with the original piece.
Measure 3.0" by 2 1/2"
metal gold plate and rhodium plate
numbered 2660 dated in 1938
condition excellent with little wear on the front and back
Book reference of a similar MB sea horse (this one is far more interesting and I would imagine rarer with the simulated opals) can be found on page 68 of Brunialti American Costume Jewelry, Art & Industry, 1935-1950'.
Marcel Boucher worked for Cartier before starting his own costume jewelry firm. In the opinion of many costume jewelry experts, the bird, marine and flower designs that he created in the 1940s have never been surpassed.
