Beautiful large wash basin and pitcher with deep blue, almost black, transfer designs hand painted with accents of dark pink, orange and bright green. The blue flows slightly giving the set an elegant old appearance. The mark on the bottom indicates this is the ’Springfield’ pattern. Butterflies fill the space between the fanciful flowering trees. The ceramic body is very pretty and white.
The edges of the bowl and pitcher are hand lined in gold. There is a little wear to the gold on the top of the bowl and on the lip of the pitcher.
Marked on the bottom of both pieces, “Losol Ware/Springfield/Kelling & Co. Ltd./Burslem/England”. The mark dates from 1912-1936.
Measurements: Bowl is 16 1/4" in diameter across the top x 5 1/4" high at the side; Pitcher is 9 3/4" (almost 10") tall. Its hard to measure its bulbous width, but the pitcher holds 1.25 gallons of water. The set is large and fairly heavy.
Condition: Other than some wear to the gold, I don’t see any problems.
