This lovely cup and saucer is made by the Royal Doulton Company in their pattern called `Old Chelsea'. It is decorated with beautiful rose flower is the center of sprays of other flowers. The rim of the cup, the saucer and the handle are in gold. The saucer has lovely scallops to it. The background of the bone china is a cream color, and there are two pink panels that are scalloped on both sides of the saucer, and on both sides of the handle. The inside of the cup also has a beautiful rose, along with sprays going around the inside.
Both the cup and saucer are marked on the bottom, in green, with the mark of Royal Doulton with the Lion and the Crown, above the circled emblem, which includes the words `Made in England Royal Doulton England' and at the bottom of the circle `Bone China'. In red, on the saucer only, it is hand written in red `Old Chelsea Adapted from a plate made at Chelsea circa 1760'. To me the lion and the crown that is part of this mark looks most similar to the one used by Royal Doulton from 1902 – 1922, although the words `B one China' were not included until 1928. Both the cup and saucer are hand marked in black V2137.
This cup and saucer is quite lovely and dainty. The condition of both is good.
