LR 459 Twelve Heart Cup PlateLR 459 Twelve Heart Cup Plate

LR# 459 is a 12-heart cup plate. There are 12 hearts on the shoulder, and the rim has 81 even scallops, one of which is chipped. It is probably from Sandwich. Only the center is stippled. It is the largest of the 12-heart type, the serrations is plain and the central scrolls are too. The table-ring is a rope form. It's origin is probably Sandwich and it was made in the early transition period.

Cup plates were very popular from the 1826 into the 1850's in America. They performed many purposes, as a coaster for a tea cup; they helped prevent tables from being marred, and also kept the table linen clean, and acted as a cooling medium to the hot cup of tea.

There is crack line in the glass which is visible, but cannot be felt. There is also a little black spot.

Considering the age of this piece of history and that this item served a purpose please expect some wear on the rim and edge.
