This beautiful mezzo-tint was done by F.G. Stevenson, an English etcher and mezzo-tint artist who was known for his sentimental and religious subjects as well as for landscapes. Most of his work was based upon the designs of either 18th century British painters or the old masters, such as Raphael.
Mezzo-tinting was both labor intensive and very artistically demanding. Very few impressions could be pulled from the plate. Making it even more demanding was when they were printed in colors, which required multiple plates.
This piece is signed on the lower right side and dated 1915. The frame alone is an exquisite work of art. The plate size is 15 x 12 ¼ inches. I have not inspected the mezzo-tint outside of the frame.
Together, this mezzo-tint and the frame, is a beautiful piece of art from history.
