Born in Philadelphia, where he first studied, but like his friend, James McNeill Whistler, he later went to Europe and made his home in London. This etching is of the Lindsey House, where Whistler was once a resident ( 2 Lindsey Row) between 1866 through 1878. Joseph Pennell's primary distinction is as an original etcher and lithographer, and notably as an illustrator.
This etching is signed near the lower middle; the plate size is 11 x 8 inches. There are no rips or tears. It is in a very old frame, so I am sure the backing does not meet today's standards. I have not inspected the piece outside of the frame; but I believe that all it needs is a good cleaning and re-framed.
