It's not my photography, or your eyes; yes, these pictures look out of focus. All of Ella Fillmore Lillie's works display this soft blur; it's really not the pictures. A lithographer, screen printer, and crafts-person, Lillie (1887-1973) was born in Minneapolis and attended the Minneapolis School of Art. She was an accomplished print-maker who exhibited widely from the mid-1930 to the 1960s; and has works under three different pseudonyms. She also studied at Art Institute of Chicago.
Candlelight is an eerie and very convincing portrayal of an old woman walking by candlelight; the reflections of the candlelight can be seen on the back wall. It's an excellent example of exquisite work that was done in the creation of this mezzo-tint. This piece is an edition of 25; it is signed by the artist on the lower right side. It is unframed and in very good condition. The image size is 8 3/4 x 8 ¾.
