This mirror is poured glass, in other words, no seams. It measures 4 3/4" long. At one time, it was gold leafed around the frame, but most of it has since faded away. The mirror is glued in, and behind the mirror, it is also painted gold or leaf and when you look on the backside, you will see that gold paint. In my humble opinion, they should have put a portrait before they applied the gold paint. But it isn't too late to do that if you are crafty. You would have to sacrifice the mirror (it is not beveled), scrape out the gold paint, insert your portrait, repaint and replace with a mirror. You can also reapply the gold leaf and have yourself a pretty heirloom. Of course, many would prefer to leave it in it's present condition. It is darling as is!
