An unusually fine piece of dark blue jasperware made by William Adams Co. This is a covered jug, trimmed in sterling silver (with a hallmark) and decorated with trees and classical figures. The dark blue background enhances the white of the garlands at the top and the classical figures of women beneath. The white decorations are beautifully carved and modeled. The sterling rim is hallmarked but I cannot decipher it. The bottom is marked (impressed) with Adams, est. 1657, another mark Tunstall, England, also a number and the letter S. The jasperware feels silky to the touch. The Wm. Adams Co. was founded in 1657 and is still going. Their jasperware was as fine as Wedgwood's. The sterling rim makes it a unique piece. The dimensions are 6-1/2" x 6" wide.
The condition is mint.
