This handleless cup and saucer is a beautiful example of Gaudy Dutch soft paste. It was made in England and shipped to the United States around 1812 to the mid 1800's. It was very popular with the Pennsylvania Dutch and the Amish population due to the bright and cheerful colors (reddish orange, bright yellow and green). The handleless cup measures 3-1/2" and the saucer 5-1/2".
It is in perfect condition except for the small chip on the base of the cup and a tiny hairline on the outside. (see picture) . The saucer is perfect and the hand painting on both has no apparent chipping. I wonder if it was ever used. It is a very desirable piece.
