This 3 3/4" high Japanese incense burner or censer is made in the Satsuma style on porcelain. This type of ware was mass produced during both the Taisho (1913-1926) and the early Showa (1926-1988) periods. Satsuma style makes heavy use of moriage, or raised enamels for the decoration; on this censer are four 2" wide oval portraits with decoration in between. The censer is 4 1/2" wide across the bowl and handles which are silver-colored dragons. On the top of the lid is a silver colored Komainu or Foo-dog, a traditional guard of a shrine. The round base is 2 1/4" across. This is a colorful piece to grace your home. I occasionally have other incense burners listed here, and do have some vases with the moriage decoration used to enhance them. I will combine orders for discount and shipping savings.
