This 4 1/4" high blue and white porcelain pieces is--whatever you want it to be! Kurt Hammer made many steins and mugs, some decorative pieces, and the shape on this could be a type of drinking mug or a vase or a small planter/container...your choice. The open top is 3 1/2" across, the base is 3 1/8", and the colors are delicate shades of blue on a white background. Kurt Hammer was born in Tettau, Bavaria in 1926, trained at the Royal Porcelain Factory privileged and educated at the technical college for porcelain in Selb. In 1955 he founded his own glass and porcelain decoration factory in Munich, and in 1972 built a larger factory in Schondorf am Ammersee. Hammer was one of the founding members of the Regional Association of Visual Arts and described as quiet but powerful in his works. He died in March, 2010.
